throttle position sensor

I am planning on installing a throttle position sensor tomorrow. What do I have to do to install it? anything special? disconnect battery, reset computer, hold gas pedal to the floor, etc...... Please let me know if you have done this before and what exactly I have to do. The reason for replacing it is because of transmission shifting/convertor problems.

Thanks James

Re:throttle position sensor

Three suggestions.

1. Go to the 2nd Generation forum because they have a topic on this.
2. Search for TPS changing info.
3. Check out this helpful website http://dodgeram.org/support_pgs/tech_index.htm

Hope this helps. Srigs

Re:throttle position sensor

you shouldn't have to spend $165 to replace it. buy a rewire kit. a new tps will not solve the problem in the long run...

Re:throttle position sensor

As Scott said a new tps may not solve your problem. But if you do it it will need to be adjusted which requires a voltmeter that measures less than 1 volt.
Good instructions on adjustment here.

Re:throttle position sensor

Try everything else before replacing, the rewire kit does work if it is a wire loom problem, and some have had good luck with dissasemble and clean and reseal. Goodluck Rick

Re:throttle position sensor

you really need to monitor the voltages at the pcm side of the harness while driving down the road. you will see the voltage spikes at about 1.8v... just tap the signal and run a voltmeter from signal to ground. easy. you probably don't need a new tps.

questions? let me know.
