TCC slip...too much?

Hey all,
Last weekend I went up to New Hampshire with the truck, and I THINK I felt the tcc slipping a little in 4th gear. This happened to me twice, once on a 13% grade doing about 55 I matted it (and boy it took off!) but once it hit about 1700 rpm it really started to pull...then once I let off goin around 70 the rpms dropped 250rpm real quick, then tappered down, like the clutch was slippin a bit the whole time. Was hard to tell though, because I was still going up hill, and my attention was kind of diverted towards the sharp turn ahead.

The next day going up a 7% grade I couldn't help myself again...similar symptoms, not a whole bunch of slip if any, but I thought I smelt a hint of clutch, so immediatley let off.

Its a 98 180 horse, with about 30K on new tranny (been babied since then). I don't have much for mods, just bhaf, 4" turbo back, star'd a bit, plate ground to 8-10ish. Oh and 2 big a** tranny coolers.

Would increasing line pressure help at all, or should I just hold back until I can afford new tc/valve body? If so, how much is too much pressure?
One more question...who has strong valve bodies/tc's for a reasonable price? I'm gettin addicted, need more power....

Thanks for any help.

Well, valvebody and line pressure is always good, but a slipping torque converter is a dying TC and replacement with a good vavle body is the only way to "fix" the problem and help prevent it in the future. Now to anwser your vender ? i will tread lightly and simply say that in the trans world you get exactly what you pay for. i will recommend a suncoast pro-loc triple disk torque converter, as i have yet to see one fail under even the worst conditions. And for the valvebody and trans issue i would suggest http://www.htstransmissions.com/ and i might add that they deal suncoast.

Check fluid , does it look off color or smell burnt at all. I'd be concerned that material has already contaminated trans. May need to be rebuilt and then make sure lines and trans cooler are flushed.

A valve body would greatly help your transmission live and hold MUCH better. It would definately be a good investment, but a triple disc converter would make it even better. I reccomend Goerend for your transmission parts. www.gbtransmissions.com is his site, but its best to call him. He has THE best warranty around, and his stuff is awesome.

I've never had any shuddering/shaking problems whatsoever, with the old tc or the new. Truck was stock until the new tranny went in (except previous owner slid AFC housing and plate forward a bit, and starwheel), then the little mods were added. Fluid appears to be really clean, only about 1500 on new fluid and filter, re-torque bands etc. I think I'll do the valve body next, but so far the tranny is holding pretty good, even though I don't have a temp gauge I know it stays pretty cool. After a pretty hard run w/o lockup I can touch the coolers- hot to touch, not burning hot. Never had any shifting problems, slipping problems, etc.
