TC lockup reflash
I think I am going to wire up a TC lock up switch. My truck was built in 2-96 which is one of the models that may need to be reflashed. How can I really tell, wire it up and try it or take it in and have it reflashed? Will the dealer know what I am talking about when I ask them to reflash to a newer system? Does anyone know how much it will cost to reflash? Thanks, John

The reflash part numer is 04886926.
You can install the switch and see if it will function properly. If it doesn't, just leave it in the "off" position and have the reflash done. Turn the ignition off and restart if switch causes the tranny to go into limp mode. Suggest you first try the switch in a no/low traffic area.
They will probably state one hour labor charge for the reflash. I read somewhere that warranty pays 1/2 hour labor for the job. My local dealer first stated one hour and then dropped back to 1/2 after I mentioned the warranty rate.

Flashing reburns the computer to start fresh some engine trouble codes and modifications will not take without doing so Dealerships pretty much have the market on this service I've tried many different tricks and none seem to work. There mopar computer seems to work it's just expensive you know dealerships their gangsters if you don't have warranty coverage.

Jason, I believe you will be ok with your 97. The reflash only allowed the mystery switch to lock and unlock on demand. Without the reflash the early 96s would give problems such as locking up, but not wanting to release or putting the tranny in limp mode. The "only" benefit from the reflash was having it programmed where the switch could work as expected. Tranny operation before and afterwards were the same except for switch.
