swapping a 6.5l chevy with a 12v cummins?

My friend has a 98 chevy 3500 auto with a 6.5l diesel. the 6.5l engine is broke and he is thinking of putting a 12v in it instead. has anyone done this swap and if so how hard is it.

I'm sure it can be done.

But if I remember right someone said that you will have to use elec. fans to cool it.

there isn't enough room under the hood.

This may not be correct as I haven't tried it.

Keep us informed .

Sounds like a good project.

My girlfriends dad has done several 12v swaps, some into fords and others into Chevs. The Chevs are much easier to do the swap. He has gotten to where he can pull the Cummins out, pull the Pstroke or 6.5 or 454 out, and fab and remount the Cummins in 3 days. But again, he has done several so I would say it would take the better part of a week or two (given that you have proper machine and welding equip )

A wise man once said, anything is possible with enough planning and money. I don't see why it wouldn't fit though, but I've never really checked out a chevy engine bay.

Would be a wortwhile project in my book.

Halerazor,

Get real, Chebbies eat as many, if not more tranny and rear ends than any other truck maker!! I managed a fleet for many years, up to 2000, and the Chebbies were the WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Had Fords, Dodges, and Chebbies!!!!!!!!!

So don't go spewing sh** based on your VERY limited experience!!

Yeah, it's all fun and games with the Chevy until you load a 23 year old girl in full arrest in the back and the dang thing won't start.

Never had a Dodge do that to me

You know, if you change the red stuff in the trans once in a while, they usually last as long as mine did. 170K+ pushing 300HP and turning 37's. I replaced it because the lock up clutch lining was burnt off

My cummins never left me walking either...im not doubting the realiability of the engine..just simply stating our opinoins.......would love to have the big full 4 door crewcab that chevy has always made..plus I like the look of the older chevies before they came out with slanted headlights......
didnt mean to make yall mad but i could really care less....

You didn't make me mad, but if you don't like it buy something you do! My personal opinion from many years of experience is the Chebbies are bottom of the barrel in reliability, durability, and factory support!!
