I almost always find that the truck goes about as well as the driver drives it and maintains it. most people with trans problems over tow. over drive and dont maintain it or they put in the wrong fluid . or they dont service it until after they have burned it up . and then they want to put five guarts of fluid in to a system that takes 12 to 15 guarts and go back out and do it again.if you have a dodge with auto i would change the fluid every 15k miles

Obviously none of you have owned a big block chevy with a th400 behind it. Th400 and muncie go hand in hand as the best trannys ever built. Both Chevy and neither of them have had major problems like Dodge. I've never heard of anyone putting a dodge tranny behind a high horsepower engine(1000+) let alone a mild motor (500+) and why would they when they can barely hold up 300hp. Go to a track, monster truck show, truck pull, drag race and you'll see the th400 in almost all automatic applications. Dodge trucks look nice(at least the new trucks) and maybe they've fixed the tranny problems, but historicaly Dodge trannys are the worst. All vehicle manufacturers have problems and let us not forget them just because of loyalty, if we did we'd be telling fibbs and that's just immoral. But as we all know, the cummins has proven to be the best diesel in history, at least for trucks anyway.

Boy is your head stuck in the sand, the old 727 is one of the best, if not the best old 3 speed auto out there!! And yes I have seen many, many of them behind 1000+++HP big block dodges!!

I have owned two Big Block chevies in one ton duallies, Can you say underpowered pigs???? 4 miles per gallon on a good day?!!?!? Yea, I'm sure your opinion on the trannies is right on the mark also, the one truck grenaded a tranny every 12,000 miles or so!!! Please.

The more I think about this the more I realize who spews the brand loyalty above all else. That's you. You do have one point, the 88-98 trannies had issues, as did Chevies. ( I know I owned some) But you can modify the dodge unit to handle much horsepower and torque!! ATS, DTT, Suncoast, and Goerend Brothers have proven that!! It may be modified, but it is still Dodge. Chevy on the other hand had to have Allison figure it out for them, and even that tranny has issues!
So there you go johnnybigblock, to everyone else I appologize for taking up your time!!

You guys really need to start thinking about factory transmissions not rebuilt over stuffed ones. Take a th400 from the factory put it behind 1000+ hp and have a nice life, and I do mean life, not months. By the way mcmopar, your thinking of your dodge transmission when you say 12k miles not the Th400. Either that or you thought you were in drive when you were really in second gear, do you need corrective lenses, that would explain the bad gas mileage. Or maybe, you swapped out the Th400 for that REINFORCED 727 you saw "once" and then thought so highly of it. Please! State the facts, it's not so hard, you can do it.Think factory not REINFORCED rebuilt. Anyone can rebuild a tranny with aftermarket parts to withstand high horsepower, we're talking factory parts not aftermarket rebuilt dream trannys. Maybe Dodge will wise up and get Allison to build them a good tranny. And maybe Chevy will wise up and get cummins to build them a good diesel. I'm not going either way, I'm just stating the facts about the Th400 and the muncie. Take it easy.

Right,
What ever you say. I owned the trucks, I know the mileage, and obviously "you" know it all. I have torn up your 400's, the 727 is as good.PERIOD. The Allison is not a "GOOD" tranny, it has issues .
