Is the stock air filter enough

I have a stock turbo, banks twin ram intake, slightly larger than stock injectors (i didn't put them in so don't know exactly what they are), plan on a 10 plate and 3k spring. How many horse/torque do you think i will be pushing and do I need something better than a stock air filter and what is recommeded

i think the stock af is as good as you can get as far as filtration is concerned, most guys upgrade to a bhaf for increased air flow (including me) but don't notice any performance gains.......maybe cooler EGT

Your setup sounds similar to my 97 12-valve, with a #10 plate and 3K GSK, etc. I have mine setup somewhat mild as I have to pass a diesel emissions test annually (exhaust smoke opacity test) so it's not producing all the power it's capable of. Regardless, I highly recommend a BHAF over the stock filter. I not only noticed higher boost readings (about 30 psi max now) after changing to a BHAF years ago but get lower EGTs as well.

I live at about 6700 ft elevation in Colorado and take the truck up to 10K and higher elevations every fall when I go hunting. The BHAF flows significantly more air that the stock unit and it's filter efficiency is every bit as good as any stock element. I also recommend building/using a BHAF heat shield as it will help keep the filter cooler as it sits pretty close to the turbo. The build plans used to be on this site but I couldn't find them now for you. I've attached the build template (BHAF.doc) so you can build one or have someone do it for you. Good luck in your quest for more and cooler air.
