Steering Box
Steering Box
A few months ago I had my front end aligned. There was some play in the steering wheel when turning to the right. I asked the technician if the idler arm or pitman arm had gone bad. He stated that there was play in the steering box. Is this common or should I say do yall belive there is any truth in this. What is the fix for this if that is the problem.
The best fix is here, every Ram should have one even if they don't have a problem

You might also try to tighten the gear box itself. On top is a set screw with a nut on it. I don't remember what size they are, but it isn't too hard to figure out. Loosen the lock nut and turn the set screw in a little. I MEAN A LITTLE!!!! Like 1/8 of a turn. Try driving the truck and see what it is like. If you go too far with it, the steering won't want to go back to center and you run the risk of ruining the gear box.

Mine's loose. I am looking at changing it when it finally warms up again. Price on a rebuild is <$300. I am 100% sure that mine needs to be changed. I did try to tighten it, not much better. When I get to that, I'll try to remember to take pictures.

Try this stabilizer before replacing the box http://www.solidsteel.ca/Stabilizer.htm
Even if it doesn't fix the problem it will 100% prevent it from happening again on a new box (it will happen again). Great product.

That support won't fit on mine due to where I have the remote oil filters mounted. I would like to install a modified version somehow when I put the new box on.
I just e-mailed them to see if they could sell me a modified version to at least give some support.
