Take the 10mm 12 point and put it on the bolt so the open end is angled down ( turn the wrench around if you have to.) Take a longer comb wrench about a 18mm or so and put the open end in the 10mm open end from straight below. There is a slot in the frame . stick a big screw driver through the closed end of the big com wrench and into the slot. by alighing things just right you can get quite a bit of leverage and crack the bolt loose. It's down hill from there.

A small bottle jack and a 2 x 2 will do the same thing, probably easier. I didn't have one however.

Moved it for you. Sorry, but I can't help you on the starter problem, I have never had to pull mine.

I've resorted to the hydraulic bottle jack trick enough times that I no longer crawl under without one.

i used a 10 mm retching wrench and a pair of gloves then gave it He11
and if that dont work use a hammer and hit it a couple of times also use some liquid wrench or pb blaster

I pulled mine off last week to install Larry B`s super contacts[71,000 miles].The one old contact was completely gone.Actually, the top bolt was the easiest bolt for me.I got it from the top using a 1/2" ratchet and a long and short extention.I went in just under the lift pump and it was a straight shot on my `98.The bottom bolt was the hard one for me as I broke my box end wrench trying to break it loose and I couldn`t get any combination of 3/8 drive tools to fit between the bolt head and the starter housing.

Part of the problem (IMHO) is that you waited to get at the hardest to reach bolt last. By taking out the other two first all the "torque" is transfered to the one that is hardest to get out.

Next time go after the hardest ones to reach first.

I've had the starter out twice. Both times were a piece of cake, cause I got the top one out first.

Does that make sense?

I tend to agree. After doing the same and getting the bottom 2 out easily, I couldn't budge the top one. So I put in the other bolts and torqued them up and the top one came loose more easily. Then I removed the other two fasteners.. Good tip...

Work smarter, not harder.

Seems like this might be a good thread to tack this on to, does anyone have the torque specs for these bolts? My starter was just spinning and when I got under there the top bolt was MISSING and one of the bottom bolts was finger tight and had busted the mount.... Got a new bolt, but I want to be sure to tighten then down appropriately.

I've put 3 starters in my '95 over the last 330,000 miles, and never seem to have a problem--I go at that top bolt from the top.
