Shocks movement ?
Hello Everyone,
I am wondering if anyone can tell me if there should be any fore and aft movement where the shock mounts to the axle? I am noticing a slight shifting in the front end when I turn mostly at slow speeds. Could that be causing this?
I had the shocks replaced about 2 years ago with run of the mill Monroe's.
Thanks for any info or suggestions in advance.

Hi GITTYUPGO,
Nice Tagname Just more annoying than anything when parking it happens mostly and I have found when I turn the wheels then apply the brakes kinda quickly it shifts/clunks. Makes me feel like I am driving a pile.Still like the power on the highway that this truck has.

Anything is possible but there are a lot of other moving parts that would be more likely to give that settling/clunk. Check calipers, ball joints, control arm bushings, u joints, steering shaft, steering box....etc. with truck's front end up in the air and a pry bar to try and wiggle each joint with some leverage.

I had a clunk in the front end a while ago and it turned out to be the rubber bushing on the bottom of a shock. The bushing was gone and the bolt was just rattling up and down. They were just a cheap pair of Car Quest shocks. Replaced with a pair of KBS shocks and been fine since....

I have had it in 3 diff. shops and all say the front end is tight. I have replaced TB,tie_rod ends, calipers and 1 U_joint. I have tried to test the steering shaft for left right play and has none. The steering box has a DSS on it and I think it is ok as very min. side to side steering slop. I did notice the shocks have a small amount of up/down play where the lower bolt goes through that may be causing shifting when turning, they are Monroes about 2 years old, would be nice to have some 5100's up front but more $$. O_well thanks for the reply.

I didn't mean to say I had clunking just a bit of movement the shocks are very old but I think it is all ok. So many other things have been replaced in the front but not the shocks---yet.
Keep looking you will find it.
