Rough idel

When the truck is cold or warm the idel is very rough. At stop lights I have to keep my foot on the gas a little to keep the truck from dying. This problem has been getting progressivly worse. It runs pretty good at hwy speeds put shakes and stumbles bad a at idel except in park when the engine is not under load. Looking places to start diagnosing this prob also my power steering pump is shot if this makes a differwnce.

First thing i wud try is resetting the idle speed on the pump. shud be a set screw to adjust there and the shifting part may be linked to problem with a tps problem....

Because it only effects the rpm's while in gear, it does sound like the idle speed may be too low.
A simple bump in the idle speed may be all it needs.
However, you may also want to check the OverFlow valve. (While your symptoms may not be that of a bad OF valve, you may still want to check).
HERE is a link with more information on the Over Flow valve.
Also, if you decide to adjust it and while your under the hood, there is a rubber fuel-return line that runs from the back of the pump, down the back of the block and back to the fuel tank.
This rubber line can, over time, become cracked or dried out.
These cracks can allow air into the fuel system.
Im not sure if cracks in this return line would only effect idle speed or general performance over the rpm range.
Either way, its something to check while you're under the hood.
