Idel screw

I still cant find the rite screw to turn down the idel . I got pics from the tech forum , it showes a idel screw just under the diafram on the front of the pump. NO SCREW. I bought the truck used and I think that the pump is a different year. Or it may be off a 91.5. I also got pics from wanna and it looks like they show the screw that tweeks the pump Which I have already done and am happy with. I don't want to mess with that. Any Ideas?

Thanks a lot for all the help in the past.

I am also having a similar problem adjusting my idle. I have turned the idle down (long screw between pump and block accessed w/10mm bent like wannas picture in past post) however w/2 1/2 turns my idle was not effected at all. I have the fuel screw cranked a fair bit(2 1/2 - 3 turns) but this should not effect lowering idle should it?

this thread has a perfect picture of the idle screw and the wrench to access it. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=115039

Maybe it's just reached the end of the throttle cable adjustment and you need to back that off some now too.

Sometimes you need to lengthen the throttle rod because it won't let the lever drop all the way back to the idle screw.

Charlie, the screw is hard to see, but I can't imagine that yours is missing entirely. There is stuff in the way of it backing all the way out in either direction.

thanks a lot for the picks. I see now that there is another lock nut and screw behind the pump. I should be able to do this now . Thanks again.

Thank you,I found it and adjusted it 2 full turns and nothing seems to have happened. I will check the linkage tomarrow and adjust as needed.

wana:

I found the screw and bought the wrench and was ready to heat and bend it it looked like it was better to go the back way and remove the linkage and another line and put a 33mm socket on the lock nut . However had I had it to do over again I would take a dremel tool and grind the end off a little. I know it is not by the book but it sure is the way to go , and if you ever want to increase the idel there is plenty of screw left to do so.

With mine, I just tapped the edge of the jam nut with a sharp chisel to start it turning. Then I used a tiny pair of pliers to grab the end of the screw and turn it. Finish by using the chisel to tap the nut tight and you're good. I hate to buy tools you only use once. Hope this helps someone.

Take your idle screw all the way out and put it in from the front as well as the lock nut and you can turn it from the front easy anytime you need to. If turning down the screw won't lower the idle your linkage will have to be adjusted a little longer. I really don't think that was a 33mm socket, not unless yours is a lot bigger than mine.
