Replacement Hard Brake Lines
Replacement Hard Brake Lines
Hey all-
I'm sure any of you who live in northern regions have run into this problem, but Dodge brake lines don't last very long up here. I was just wondering if anyone had a source for prebent lines for our trucks (mine in particular), or am I stuck with either bending them up myself or going factory? The problem is, factory Dodge lines typically have about a 3 year lifespan up here. My Ram has had them replaced once already judging by the evidence I saw, and its time to replace at least a couple of them again (mainly the ones near the master cylinder). My Dakota was the same way, as the lines were replaced several years ago and need it again soon.
I know Classic Tube can bend up stainless lines for a good price, but they don't have a listing for my truck. I could send them my lines and have them duplicated, but then my truck is down even longer. That might be my best choice though, if something else isn't available. I don't mind bending up my own line, but flaring stainless line is a pain and requires different tools than I have, and the standard lines from part's stores don't seem to last any longer than the Dodge ones.

I am doing the same thing now-1st time replacement on my 98. I got mine from the dealer, I am going to spray them down with a little oil once in a while-that should help with the lifespan.
One thing I always do to customer's vehicle is spray them down with ruberized undercoating, the kind that dries (same stuff I used insode my Ram cab). But I'm hoping for a better solution...but I'll do what I have to do. I use the same stuff on metal gas tank replacements, and any metal line replacements.
