LSD additive? How long has it been since the fluid has been changed?

Sounds like it needs the rear gear oil changed. Make sure to add the LSD additive and that should help with the chatter.

mine did the same exact thing for about 2 days. took it to the shop and one of the spider gears was completely broke and 2 teeth on the pinion was in the bottom of the diff. if i were you i would take the cover off just to make sure you didnt break any teeth off.

I second both possibilities-just needs additive and spider gears. The first time I broke my dana 80, it did exactly what you describe, and it was spider gears. Kill two birds with one stone-drop the cover to change the fluid (and add limited slip additive), and check for gear teeth lying in the bottom of the housing while you're there. If it's broken spider gears and you catch it now, you probably won't wipe out the ring and pinion. If you let it ride for a while, you may eat them up too.

well i basically had to buy a brand new rear end. everything but the limited slip installed cost me 1600$$ from a good good shop. you could prob get it done cheaper if it is some teeth missing but like my dad always told me, you get what you pay for.
