Question on straight pipe

a couple questions for the people who have elimated their cat and muffler. Anyone know of a pre-made aftermarket pipe section to buy to replace the cat and muffler section? and if you were going to have one made would you get one or two seperate sections made? Having trouble finding a shop in Pittsburgh that works with 3 inch, if anyone knows of a place around here that they recommend please let me know. Thanks!

I live about 75 miles NE of you and there is a shop that is reasonable that does 3" exhaust. its in Clearfield. Otherwise keep searching. the cost of a 3" die is why most shops dont do it. If you want phone numbers, let me know

I just did mine today, and all I did was get a 3' piece of straight 3" pipe. It was already expanded at one end to slip over the 3" downpipe. I eliminated the tailpipe and installed this, and I'm going to put on a turn-down at the end of it. If you have an extended cab, use a longer pipe. I don't know about other states, but mine only requires the exhaust to extend 14" behind the rear of the cab. the pipe was $40, but I could have bought a 10' length of 3" for a little over $30 and had a muffler shop expand one end, and had the extra pipe left over.

The sound is great now. I checked out several oversize downpipes because I wanted to go to 4", but all of them seemed to still be 3" at the flange at the turbo, so it wouldn't have been any use to go to 4" (or so it seems...) so I just left the stock downpipe. The truck is louder, but the sound is far enough to the rear of the cab so it won't be annoying. My father did basically the same thing to his '97, and I have driven that truck on fairly long trips without being bothered by the sound.
