Question On Fuel Transfer Pump
Question On Fuel Transfer Pump
All of a sudden, yesterday jumped in the truck and wouldn't start, started fine before. So I primed the bulb on the transfer pump and at first it was easy than you could feel the pressure of fuel in the lines. Got in the truck and it started. Runs good but now I have a leak at the transfer pump. If I shut the truck off and re-start right away ,it cranks more than usual and hesitates but ends up starting. Where should I begin to troubleshoot before I go out and buy a new pump. Thanks

If it's the truck in your sig, check the SD solenoid or the relay. Also the pressing of the accelerator sounds to me like the idle has dropped. The correct RPM is critical to starting.

Have you ever replaced those two fuel lines?? They are famous for deteriorating and leaking, usually sucking air. Get some good marine hose and plan for about 2 hrs of cussing. Oh, they are two diff sizes, 5/16 and 3/8. If you get two ft of each you'll have plenty.
It's not good but normal for the solenoid to start smoking if you apply power to the lift up coil for more than about 15 seconds.
The only times I've seen solenoids go bad is when the starter contacts stick in effect applying power to the lift up coil for more than 15 seconds.

hey guys,
i was planning on replacing my fuel lines and they seem to be closer to 3 or more feet long from where the metal lines end up to the upper ends. not sure why this is. i'm wondering if my system was modified somehow since it is lifted?

Thanks everyone for your help, found the leak, theres a 7" long 5/16 fuel hose that runs between two steel lines, underneath the intake kind of in between fuel filter housing and engine block . Anyhow I removed it and its cracked pretty good. Thats what was leaking, and as for the no start, SD solenoid is toast . Keeps blowing fuse when I turn key on, if I un plug harness at the Solenoid fuse is ok. Will look for a less expensive alternate to the $200.00 solenoid, but for now it's manual operation........thanks again
