Pump Mods?

I am looking at buying another CTD, this one a 97 4x4, NV4500 with the 3.54 Dana 80 rear end. It's got 121,000 miles on the clock.

Looked it over closely today and I noticed that the pump is painted a tan color. The pump on my 96 is black which I know is the original color since I've had it since new.

What gives? Is this likely a replacement pump? Has it maybe been rebuilt and repainted? Any others have a tan colored pump? From the factory this way?

Any help much appreciated.

I haven't seen a tan pump before, does it look like it was done well enough to have been done off of the vehicle? The 12V IP basically never fails unless somebody was buggering with it.

Could be a pump off a Cummins used in an industrial (or some different type) of application. These engines are used in all kinds of applications so anything is possible.

The pump isn't, but I noticed that parts of the engine are tan, where ever they missed it with black paint at the factory.

Link Belt and Trex both use the 12v cummins turbo diesel, the same as in the first gen dodges. At work we have several of both and i know that are more but cant remember the names of them and they are painted tan or a shade of yellow. I am told they are higher pout put then the engines used in the Dodge trucks and the turbo are a different number. Working on a Link Belt TRack Hoe and replacing the injectors and turbo later this week when the parts come in. I will be comparing parts and number and spec to see what can be interchanged if any.

Yep that would be Cummins tan, I mostly only see that on industrial or mining equipment, as for the turbos, pumps ect... on industrial and mining stuff they are different then ours the pumps have different cams and stuff in them the turbos are mostly non wastegated and nothing you would want on your truck.

I see Cummins tan on engines everyday. Black is a special order color from Cummins.

You'll need the pump number to determine source and rating.
