Pinion seal

My pinion seal looks a little damp not wet. mostly in the dust aroung the seal. I changed the lube about 20K miles ago it was like that then and has never lost any oil I check every time I change oil and it always runs out of the hole . My question is I will be leaving in July on a 10K trip to AK and should I chance it or change it. From what I have found out it ant easy laying on your back to change without a 3/4" impack and the torque is about 450 my wrench only goes to 250 or 300. I do all my on maint. I have a hard time trusting people with my truck. I have run them like that for yrs but with this distance I don't know carrying 2100 lbs.

I would just drive it and check it once in a while. If it goes its not going to go over night,it will be gradual and will give you plenty of warning before it gets bad enough to leak real bad.

If you're not dropping fluid, I wouldn't worry about it.

Pumpkin is too full

Correct fluid level is 1/2" below fill plug. Vent could be plugged, that can cause the pumpkin to pressurize and, combined with the abundance of gear oil, can force some out past the seal, which is not designed to hold back pressure. Try clearing the vent and see if that helps keep it from weeping

Yes, my vote is that it is too full.
check vent, and make sure that level is correct.
