Overflow Valve Removal
Overflow Valve Removal
I am wanting to replace the overflow valve on my 98 Ram Quadcab. I am a little confused, because it looks like it is impossible to remove the overflow valve, without first removing or loosening up the mounting bolts on the P7100 IP to gain additional clearance. The top of the overflow valve is about 1/8" from the edge of the intake manifold!
Am I missing something here! It looks like once I start backing out the overflow valve out of the IP, it is going to hit the intake manifold. Anyone else have this issue, any solutions?
Thanks in advance for the help!

What ever you do don't bend the metal line trying to get it out, you'll never get it to line up again.
I've never seen one with only 1/8" clearance, and I've seen a lot of them.
Some are a tight fit and you have to deepen the notch on the intake with a file or grinder. If necessary remove the top nut that says do not remove below.
Likely your new valve won't have the nut and will be shorter.

Yep, I was surprised as well at the clearance. Mine does have the top nut. I am going to try removing it and see if this gives me the clearance needed. If not, I will just do a little grinding on that area of the intake manifold. Thanks for the info!
As a side note, I was wondering why some valves have the top nut and some don't, any thoughts on this?

The top nut is on the older 2 piece syle that can be taken apart to where you can see the ball and spring. The newer style that do not have the top nut are one piece and cannot be taken apart.

If you are able to get one with the top nut it's only because it's been sitting on the shelf for a long time.
Don't forget to put some shop towels between the IP and the block when you remove the old OV. You stand a chance of loosing the Banjo Bolt Gaskets if you don't and they will be gone for good!

Yep, will do! All the sites I have checked show a picture of the two-piece design. However, the pictue could be old and may not actually represent the one I get. The only place I saw the one-pince design in a picture was on EBay.
Make sure you not get the crap from China! There's a guy on ebay that sells brand new Bosch overflow valves for 29.95 plus shipping, He is located in Georgia, Thats where I got mine! He plus have large supply! Grumpy John 4X4
