Question Overflow valve adjusted

I adjusted my Overflow valve from around .400 to .500 as recomended on a post i was grazing through the other day.
Man!
It DOES make a difference in lower rpm! Thats great!

But.....now i have an annoying ticking coming from the engine, most noticable when listening through the driver wheel well or under the driver door. Is this from the overflow valve?. It has been replaced and if i remeber correctly it was replaced shortly before i bought the truck in DEC 03 to unsuccessfully cure a hard start problem. Is this overflow valve bad now since it was out of spec? I know spring stretching is for the birds, so i guess i need a new one now?
Wadaya think? TIA -Jake

For 30 bucks it's better just to replace it.
Most of the spring stretch fixes I've done have only lasted a short time.

Yeah, get a new one... it'll run even better than the one that you stretched the spring in. At least mine does.

It's simple, remove the old one, put it in a new one. Stuff a rag below so you don't lose the gaskets.
Don't bend the steel fuel line to remove it, on some trucks you have to file or grind a little off the indented spot on the head to get it out. Newer OF valves don't come with what the diagram calls a retainer, they are one piece but work just the same

Object at lower left is the oil fill cap

So should we just replace that since the one in there is old and probably is worn out.Is there something to look for if it needs replaced.

The OF valve is just a part that wears out. Unless you have a fuel pressure gauge to monitor it you're pretty much guessing at it's condition until it gets real bad.
Symptoms when the fuel pressure is too low are: low RPM miss/instability, white smoke, hard starting, engine dies at idle and low power.
Fuel filter cracking and hose leakage if the pressure goes the other way and is too high.
