Only 110MPH 5 Speed

On the 5 speed manual 12 valves you hit a top speed of about 110 MPG which will put you at an uncomfortable RPM at 80-85mph. I’m wondering how to get a little more out of my truck.. It has plenty of power to take a lower gearing. I was thinking a ring and pinion? 6 speed trany?

I think he is trying to lower his cruising rpm's at 80-85 miles per hour?

gear vendors or a dana 70 with 3.08 gears from a early non overdrive cummins first gen. or just a 4k rpm kit, mine will do 140 easy.

If you're trying to lower your cruising RPM...higher gears, or an aftermarket OD. A 6 speed won't do it!

If you're trying to go faster, a 3K or 4K governor spring kit will do the trick!

they don't make any lower gears to speak of. you can get 3.23s for a dana 80 and 3.55 is as low as they go for a standard dana 70

Keep in mind that if you change the ratio of the rear axle, you will need to do the same to the front one so the 4wd will still function properly

A governor spring kit will help you out big time! Makes the trucks a lot better to drive IMO.

My dads stock 98 5 speed with go 100mph runnin for all shes worth. I have had mine to 105, and still pullin according to the speedo, but it is off probably 5mph or so since I have 285's, and it had 245's stock. An automatic will get you a lower rpm on the intersate. O/D in the auto is .69 to 1. Im only turning like 2k rpm's at 80mph.
