oil question?

Rotella 15W-40 for first 100k. Amsoil 15W-40 ever since I saw my distributor's truck with 450k+ miles on two oil changes. That's right two oil changes. The truck dynos at over 490hp and he uses it to deliver Amsoil products on the east coast. The second oil change was due to a blown head gasket that contaminated the oil at 300k+ miles. Good enough for me!!!! I've ran Amsoil in my gassers since early 90's never any problem, but I did't think it would be wise with the diesels, because of soot, until last summer. Excellent cold starts and consistent oil pressure. I love it!!!

Whatever is on sale - lately .99/gallon Delo 30 wt. (AutoZone closeout) and $3/gallon Castrol Techtion 15W40(sale plus factory rebate). Unlike Powerstrokes, Cummins are easy on oil. It won't make any difference what quality brand of diesel rated you use.
The system Hayseed mentions requires an expensive bypass filter system and filters. Probably not economically feasable unless you use your truck in commercial applications.

Hey guys I only run the Amsoil for 25000 miles then change it. Plus one filter at 12500 miles and a quart of oil. No need for the bypass system. 25000 miles for $115.50 plus tax for Amsoil vs Rotella and filters for $194.25 plus tax. That is 38.85 per change for Rotella when changed at 5000 miles. That's the econo reason the other reason is it is a better lubricant and filter. 4 micron filter vs 15 micron on the particle trap size. Just my 2 pennies worth.
