Oil Pressure sensor plug
Oil Pressure sensor plug
I am having the normal problem with the factory oil pressure gauge that drops to zero when it reads under 20 psi. I have a mechanical one so I know I have the correct oil pressure. I want to use both but I cannot figure out how to get the electrical plug off of the sending unit. I watched youtube videos and some say to pull up on the tab and others say to push on the red tabs. My plug has a red tab on each side that slides back and forth. What am I missing. I can not get this off?
Are you trying to connect the mechanical gauge at the same place as the electrical? If so, no need - many (if not most) who run a mechanical gauge tap in at the top of the filter mount. There's a pipe-thread plug there thats easily removed.
Oil Sensor
Thanks for your reply. I have the mechanical gauge connected at the filter. I just want to replace the electric sensor so I do not have the listen to the warning sound. I just can not figure out how to get the electric plug off of the factory sensor.
The connector on my '96 has the typical retainer that slides over the little triangle on the sensor snout and that you carefully lift up when removing, so it's very different from yours. From the pictures I see on RockAuto of your connector, you should slide the red tab outward and remove the connector. It looks like the tab is a sliding lock. I hope the pictures in the linked items give a feel for how far out to slide the red tab.

Follow up to my oil sensor plug. Well I finally got the plug off and replaced the oil pressure sensor with with an OEM one. Put it all back together and no change. So I guess the gauge is bad. Oh well you win some and you loose some.
Not necessarily. PMing you with how to get a free downloadable factory service manual for the '98. Gauges are in section 8E of the manual for my '96 - should be in the same section (or close) in the '98 manual. There are some more steps you can take to determine if it is a bad gauge or another issue.
