Oil pressure sending unit socket question

Well the oil sending unit on my 96 was broken, i got a new one and a socket to take the old one off and put the new one on. I got the old one off no problem because it was broken. I put the new one in and tighten it as tight as i could with my hand, then i tried to put the socket on it to snug it up more, but i cant get the socket to go on straight because the new unit is not broken and the socket is to fat and hits the power steering pump. Any suggestions, do they make a slimmer socket?? Thanks

what kind of socket are you using? i just had to replace mine too and i picked up a special socket for it when i got the sending unit. i had to use an extension to reach it but it worked

its made by Lisle 1 1/16" and its got the special groves that fits with the sending unit itself. it was like 10 buck if i remember right. hope that helps

yeah, the socket i got was from napa, the socket fits on the sending unit, but the old sending unit plastic piece was cracked so it was able to move side to side, but the new one is not broken so i cant move it side to side. I cant get the socket between the power steering pump and the sending unit, not enough room for it to fit through, thanks

Are you sure that the new unit is not cross threaded? I replaced mine a few months ago and had plenty of clearance.

when i have the socket on the sending unit, you can see where it is hitting the back of the power steering pump and can visualy see that the socket is at an angle. I dont get it
