hey there, heres a new member.
my 98 12v w/ 108k. last week, came to a stop and oil pres went to zero then back up again. it's ha[[ened a few times since then so i replaced sending unit, topped off oil, checked wiring at the sender etc... any help?
love my truck..... 98 crew shorty 4x 5spd.

No new rattles that would indicate low pressure? Try a mechanical gauge, the oem one could be bad.

 

thanks, does the fitting at the filter housing give an accurate psi, thats where i would think to install mech gauge

 

Yes, that is where i ran mine from. The dash guages are crap, my mechanical shows pressures anywhere from 25psi at idle to 65 psi running down the highway, meanwhilethe dash guage may move an 1/8 of an inch.

 

My mechanical oil gauge reads about 25 psi warm idle and about 65 - 70 on the highway (warm). When the engine is cold it will hit about 100 psi when driving. The factory gauge (on my truck at least) is not as precise as the mechanical guage but runs fairly close; it just doesn't go much over 60 psi ever.
