Oil in exhaust manifold

Truck has been sitting since Friday night after I popped both driveshafts & the transfercase.

Anyways, I pulled the turbo off as I am replacing it with a newer model.

When I took it off, I saw that there was some oil residue in the exhaust manifold.. Enough to be wet on my fingers.
It was from the front 3 cylinders (combined)

Any idea what this would be from? (yes, I know its from the engine, but why??)

Thanks!

Blowby from piston rings becoming weak...

Loose valve dripping into one of the cylinders and blowing it in the manifold on startup...

Valve stem seals.

Crack in head???

Mine did this too. The number one exhaust gasket would never seal properly.... anyhow... I would get oil seeping out of the gasket if I idled it for a while when I started it up in the morning.

Replaced the stem seals and all is better.

When I had the head o-ringed they did a complete valve job as well.
Something I forgot to mention.. I had the truck flat-towed before I shut the truck off... It idled about 45 minutes just so I had the brakes if I needed them.

I'm thinking it COULD be unburned fuel?

Might have an answer for this one.
Just go the head off today for the second time.

The valve seals were NOT set at the bottom of the valve spring, but rather they were in a midway position (middle of the valve)

That isn't normal, is it?

Is it possible that whoever installed the seals did it WRONG?

IIRC there is a little light spring that goes on to help with holding them down on high boost engines

The cylinder head that was on the motor had a valve job just 25k miles ago..

I have a new head for this year, so no worries there.
