Oil Drips From Vent

On my 95 3500 i have a couple drops leak from the crankcase vent on to the garage floor every time i park it. There does not seem to be any excess blow by or haze comming from the vent when the motor is running. Is there any way to eliminate the drip? my 02 has the pain in the butt bottle to empty. With the bottle my garage floor stays dry. Any ideas?

lay down a big baking sheet right in that spot on the garage...

been around the world on this one... short of a new set of rings, just letting it drip is about the only decent option...

Thanks for the replies. This motor/truck only has 88,000 miles. i just bought it. it runs out real nice. i just changed oil. i put rotella t 15w-40 in it. it had a leak up front and all it was from was loose timing cover bolts. i tightened the bolts and the leak fom that area is gone. i suppose it would be a good idea to completely degrease the engine and related areas. maybe some more frequent oil changes will help. previous owner said he changed it every 8,000 which i thought was going way to far.

why dont you extend the vent hose and put a bottle on it? Its easier to empty when its under the truck.

Saw that vent thing under mine, not sure if my oil drip is coming from there or where, haven't crawled under it yet. How exactly does that vent work/where's it hooked to? I've seen it hanging there.

It's normal for the crankcase vent tube to leave a couple drops on the floor. I just attatched a catch bottle to the hose.

I took one of my kids juice drink bottles made sure the opening to the bottle leaves a large gap for venting (the opening of the bottle is about 40% larger than the od of the vent tube. I also drilled about 6 to 8 holes in the top 25% of the bottle for additional venting.

I then drilled a hole straight thru the vent hose and the bottle. The bottom of the hose sits in the bottle about 3 inches from the bottom. I have a wire going thru the bottle and the hose to hold it in place (kind of like a like a cotter pin). Make sure you leave enough of a gap so no chance of the vent hose being covered in trapped oil.

I get about 2 or 3 tablespoons worth of oil in the bottle at oil change time. I simply drain it at oil change and reattatch.

No problem with freezing here in Michigan, and no more oil spots.
