this may be a dumb question, but that hasn't stopped me before... Is there any reason to pull ODBII codes (or are there even any to pull) on a 1998 truck with the 12 valve?

Yes, the PCM will store some DTC's mostly related to tranny control and sensors on an auto.....and some ABS function DTC's - that is about it...
