NV4500 fifth gear...
Looking at buying a used '97- seller said that when he puts it into fifth, nothing happens, no grinding, no nothing, just revs freely like it's in neutral - is this the symptoms of the fifth gear nut having backed off or something more serious? What's it cost to get the fully splined shaft to repair? Thanks!

If the shaft/splines and gear are still in tack than it would be as cheap as a new updated nut( maybe $50) and taking the back of the tranny apart and installing it.
If the shaft/splines are not good than the entire tranny needs disasembly to replace the shaft.
Go to quad 4X4 and read about it there. Looks like a good shop and good products.
It sounds like most of the time you can just put a new updated nut on and its fine.
