No Smoke?

I've got an issue. I'm not getting smoke from the exhaust unless I'm doing about 55-60 MPH & I have to get on the pedal to get out of the way of something bigger or to pass someone.

What could be wrong?

I've only been in the diesel truck world for a little over a month, so I'm still learning.

P.S. try and use little words I work for Uncle Sam & some of us ain't that bright.

excess smoke is wasted fuel. my starwheel is all the way and i'll get a puff taking off and a little under heavy load.

I'm not really trying to kill bugs. I've just been reading on other posts that if the wheel is FWD then it should smoke on take-off. I've tried and nothing yet.

Has the governor been set correctly? And when was the fuel filter changed last?

Clayten...I havn't changed them yet. Just after I bought it I've had to drive to Mississippi for the next 3 weeks. I plan on having the fluids and filters changed before I leave.

Would the fuel filter really effect things that much?

Timmy...Thanks for the knowledge.

Yes both will have a significant effect on performance. This will help on the governor arm. http://www.cumminsdatabase.com/read.php?id=58
You can notice a difference on performance and fuel economy with a fresh fuel filter.

I did the fuel & pre-filters this morning.
All I have to say is I doubt the pre-filter has ever been changed or cleaned. The whole bottom rim was packed with sand and debris. I had to use a phillips w/ a rag wrapped around it to get everything out.
I took it for a little test drive and it's smoking a bit more. So I tightned the wheel a bit and I'll see how that does for me now.

Thanks for the help guys.

Dont know why but I cant seem to get my 94 to smoke at all even at highway speeds. Hopefully with a 3000gsk and a fuel plate she will be able to smoke a little.

I had the same problem with my 95.Would not smoke at all. Also the power was down .Found that the shutoff soleind was not pulling the linkage far enough. This will also cause a low idle.Found this out today...
