No limited slip

So I'd wind up doing the D70 Powr-lok and drilling out the holes for the D80 ring gear bolts?

f you cannot find a D80 Plok, you can use a D70 HD Plok and have the ring gear bolt holes slotted to accept the larger ring gear bolt circle diameter of the D80 ring gear. You CANNOT use a standard D70 carrier in a D80 as it a completely different unit that has no interchangable parts with the D70 HD or D80 unit.
Since we are on this subject again, could someone please clarify something for me? Are factory LS units in the Dodge 2500 (in my case 96 and 2001.5) Powr-Loks?
BTW, the LS unit in my 96 has seen 193K hard miles and the LS unit is still tight and functional, so whatever it is, the qquality is certainly there.
Thanks,
Chris

I think they're traction lok. In any case, my '98 dually with a 4.10 LS D80 just spit some spider gear chunks out. I'm mostly done swapping another rearend in, but I have to say I never expected to bust a dana 80. I also hear that the factory limited slip in these isn't that strong, that some other alternatives are much stronger. Of course, a dana 80 is just so big to start with that I can't see anything in it being really weak.

98 is the change over year.
97 and earlier d80's have the Plok with slots for the spider gear shafts to ramp up.
98 and later came with the bolt together T-Lok, the Track lok appears similar to the Plok but the cros shaft is fixed there are no slots and the spider gears cannot ramp up and load up more load than the initial pre-load.
if you shelled out a set of spider gears in the P-lok its not uncommon it is rare but does hapen nice thing is the P-lok can be disassembled, rebuilt/repair for usually under$200-$250 in parts
clutch kit is $60, side gears $100 spider gears and shaft usually are around $75-100 depending on the vendor. Good Luck
BTW the carrier split is at 3.73 so 3.54 is one carrier 4.10 will require another
All the guts from a 35 spline - D60 Power lok, D70 Power Lok, D70HD power Lok and 1994-97 Power Lok will interchange. the cross shafts and spiders in all 4 are the same side gears and clutch packs are too.
Good Luck
Dont be fooled by the sales pitches the Plok beats the T-lok in life span, strength, afordability and rebuildability
