Unhappy new seal leaking

did my kdp and installed the new crank seal that came with the package. now its leaking a slow leak. please tell me its supposed to do that to lubricate the seal..... upon install i made sure the seal lip was all good and not peeled back or underneath anywhere and not damaged so not sure if this is supposed to happen......

Could be a groove worn into the shaft where the seal rides.
