new ECM needed?
I swapped my auto transmission for an NV4500 in my 1995 Ram 2500 4x4, and wanted to see if I'll need a different engine ECM now to run this. I haven't tried to start it, but wanted to check with you guys that have done this before.
Thanks!
Thanks!

You will need to make sure the neutral safety switch is grounded, or run it through the clutch switch. Otherwise no PCM needed to run. Unless your fussy about the check engine light being on.

The pre 98.5 trucks do not have an ECM.
The engine is controlled by the injection pump. (Mechanical)
Stuff like the grid heaters, charging system, tach, and so on are controlled by the PCM
This PCM will complain about lack of sensor inputs from the auto tranny, but the rest should simply work.
You will need to "tell" your truck that it is in either park or neutral to be able to start the engine, the clutch pedal switch replaces the park/neutral safety switch from the auto in that regard.
ECM- engine control module
PCM- powertrain control module
