New 12V truck- need a little advise
I just purchased a 1998 truck with 130K. It's a very nice truck and all bone stock. Until I update my sig; its a LWB HD, 2WD, QC, 5 spd. Indeed, I searched a long time for this. The questions I have and advise I need relate mainly to power.
The acceleration and throttle response seems weak as compared to my 1994 truck. The motor runs good with no miss, no odd noises, good idle and power all the way to redline. In fact, it picks up a lot as top end approaches. The issue is off idle and low-end response. I have actually turned the AFC wheel full forward as well as slide the AFC full forward. Probably gained about an honest 10-15% improvement. Fourth gear is weakest accel. by far. Smoke is just a very light black puff on initial. I have checked the OFV and all is in spec. No gauges yet. The throttle springs are VERY stiff. I am a weightlifter and I need to add concrete to my boots to be comfortable with this. Is there a recommended improvement here????
One more thing, initial mileage seems to suck. My 1994 would get an honest 23-25mpg. calculated. This one seems to be getting perhaps 17-19. We'll see soon. I am tempted to order a TST#10 fuel plate and be done with it. Would this wake the bottom end up????
Thanks!

Need to start with some testing , fuel pressure , boost .
Before modifying , you should do testing to make sure that what your starting with is OK , then adjustments & mods .
Do not try to leave a problem behind , they catch up & bit the rear .
What gear in diff. , what tires ?

You're correct and I knew that was coming. I "know' these things are ok as the top end is not struggling as a FP pressure or delivery issue would perhaps reveal. I must admit that I haven't even changed the fuel filter or strainer yet. The gear is a 4:10 which I can't stand. Does about 1,900 rpm at 55 mph with brand new Cooper 265 tires.
