Need a mechanic
Need a mechanic
I am looking for some one in the Northern NY portion of the state that knows whats going on with these Diesels! I have a few minor problems that need technical assistance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Well I got a pretty good idea that its the fuel timing along with the fact that it probably needs a valve job.......but will list some of the symptoms and then keep in mind that I probably don't have the tools or the time to tackle these myself but any help is very much welcome. well here goes-
-At start up when its cold it smokes (whitish) ALOT!!
-At start up when its cold it runs very rough for 5 to 10 minutes can hardly get it to move. when I say cold I mean below 10 degrees farenhiet.
-no low end power.... pretty doggy up to1400 -1500 rpms
As far as I know my truck is totally stock I have changed all filters myself within 300 miles

Sounds like more than a cold engine to me. Have you ever had the timing set? The symptoms sound exactly like what mine did until I retimed it. I would strongly suggest that you have some one set the timing to about 15*or so.

Yes I do plug it in and yes that helps until I go to work and its been sitting in the lot all day. My grids are working fine. I really believe it needs some timing and that is where my original question comes back into play. Who can help me find some one to do it in my area! Thanks for all the help so far!!

I would say call and be noisey. Ask questions about the mechanic and his knowledge of the 5.9 Cummins. Not just anybody will ever stick there hands under my hood. That happened early in my ownership and ended real quick. I do a lot of my work and you could too if you just tried. The valves you can do. About an hours time. The white smoke is timing which you need done. Then again the smoke could be worn injectors. Mine is smoking more than it ever has and it's cold here too. Goes all the way down to 26*.
I think my 215 injectors or probably shot at 258K miles on um. The injectors you could change with a little time . You can save yourself 100's of dollars just doing the little things for you truck. Try it.

. Try plugging it in at night and see how it runs.
