need help, truck idling 2500rpm+

just yesterday i was driving home and pulled to a red light and my truck just started idling at about 2500 rpm or more. i shut it off then started back up and it jumped straight up to 2500 again.
i checked the idle adjust screw but nothin. i wonder if anyone has any ideas or anything of what could be wrong. any help will be greatly appreciated.. thanks a bunch

i looked at the linkage and didn't see it hung up anywhere, so it isn't that i know of, and it is still doing it. i woke up this morning and tried it and it's doin the same still.
the rpms don't instantly shoot up but gradually do pretty quick though. they climb up in just a matter of a few seconds.

pull the afc off and move the throttle linkage around with the fuel cutoff solenoid pulled up. Should see the governor lever arm moving smoothly to contact the bottom of the fuel plate. Did you do the GSK recently? Maybe look and make sure none of those studs are damaged? Otherwise its to an injection shop it goes Id say.
If you have a C02 fire extinguisher handy Id keep it in the truck just in case it sticks and wont shut off. Scary.

k ill check that in the morning when theres some light. i did the gsk about 5 or 6 months ago i think, so it's been a little while. no problems with that til now.
i haven't been driving it for that reason, having the fuel stick wide open drivin around just don't thrill me very much

i checked the gov arm today, it seems to be fine, still contacting the plate in the same spot on bottom, seems to be ok, but what exactly would it do if its sticking?
what should i check externally on it?

make sure everything is in the idle position, make sure linkage is not hitting anything. if you start it and it goes to 2500rpm what does the throttle to? can you push on the pedel and tell a difference?

There is a throttle cable recall on these trucks, #970 if I remember right. Call the dealer and see if your truck has had the work performed. Mine was very frayed when I saw it after they had removed it.

Could you simply pop the linkage off the pump and fire it up see if the idle is normal or high then you'd know if it's somewhere in the cable/bellcrank/linkage or a bigger problem.

Just a thought.

also, I see you are running a 3K gsk, is it the washers? or is it the real deal with the springs???
if its the washers, might be hanging up or catching in the springs and couasing your idle to stay high on the idle spring.......
