Most effective cold air/short ram/ram air kit

I am sure this has been answered somehwere within the forum, but, I have been looking at intakes for a while... and there are various claims according to each brand at what they flow over factory, and what the pressures they create at turbo inlet are etc, etc.

So, for a 5.9L 94-98 engine, what is THE BEST intake?
For what its worth, according to specs, AIRAID and AFE seem to have the best specs on thier products.

Any input?

not really needed for a mild to medium tuned CTD, just boosting the turbo PSI with a $2 buck boost elbow works great. high flow intakes and airbox kits are not really that much of a performance boost to a turbo engine. My friends all use high flow filters and intakes and im like, umm your makeing the same 35psi with either setup

Question boost elbow vs intake kit?

not that im doubting youre common sense, but, if lets say AFE for example is touting that there is a 45hp hain at the wheels for a stage 2 dry kit, wouldnt that tend to mean that the air intake kit is doing something?

when you say boost elbow... you mean the fittings joining the pipes for the air inlet?

boost elbow keeps the waste gate closed and gives much more boost. When combined with a fuel plate, you will have all the power you could ask for. I break the rr tire loose at 50MPH on wet pavement with ease

The high flow intakes really shine on highly turned CTD's like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgDrX...eature=related where the engine is spinning 5K and gobbeling HUGE ammounts of air, for your setup id save my money and just do a boost elbow, fuel plate and a 3k gsk (plenty of info found on here in old threads) It took my automatic from a 160HP slug to a 400hp axle (pinion) breaking rocket!

Stock airbox and paper filter will easily support 300 hp.
Most folks don't need to do anything and will see no improvement spending the extra money.
This cheap mod works for me> http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/ge...ck-airbox.html

So where can I buy a quality boost elbow. Sounds like that is all I need. I was going to go full cold air intake kit. But that's big $. It seems the boost elbow would fine. I have a # 11 fuel plate and 4" turbo back. I just want to make sure my 12 valve is getting enough air.

How much $ is a typical boost elbow?

Thanks.

That K&N FIPK claims to increase power by as much as 10%. That seems good. But it doesn't mention if it reduced air temp at intake. Does anyone know?

Seems like a desirable upgrade. Any thoughts?

It does i am pretty shore because there is more air running in. However I am not positive. But it does increase power a ton, and alot more acceleration. A must buy.

I've run several different setups for intakes, stock, afe, k&n and am currently running the setup infidel posted the link too. I have not noticed any difference in power or temps between any of them.

Good read I picked out of another thread somewhere: http://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/g...s/viewall.html

Infidel's mod is about as good as it's going to get unless a guy is running some serious power.
