Looking for more power?

I'm out for some more power. well more pulling power. i pull a 25' stock trailer. at times loaded with 12-13 horses. i have no real problem's now but it might be a little dogish on the hills around here but nothing to awful bad. i was wondering what kind of upgrades should i be looking for. i put the boost/pyro(before the turbo) gages and 5" exhaust in last summer. i do have the a k/n air filter kit for it but have not got around to putting it in just yet. i don't want to over bored. I'm just looken for just a little more with out putting a huge dent in my back pocket. i was looking at a #10 plate, would that be to much? and just advancing my timing. by how much i have no clue. kind of hoping that someone would chime in on that one. as far as my truck. its all stock. except for that ones i mention above.

I would try the #10 plate and see if that is about what you are looking for.
If it is too much, you can always go down from there. I would also take the timing up some. When my 96' was more "stock" than it is now, sixteen (16) degrees always seemed to be a good setting on my truck.

The 3K springs would also help you alot..If you put in the 3K springs,16 degree timing and a aftermarket fuel plate, the truck will really pull..

i agree with diesel dave2. If i were u would eventually put in a quick spool exhaust manifold that way i get spool up down low which means i get power sooner which means i could move that trailer up hills w/ the egts going crazy. i would also add a 62 turbo to get cooler denser air into that intake again more power sooner

I tow just fine with a #10, 3k GSK, 14cm turbo housing, K&N cone intake and 4" exhaust.
Speed limit is no problem even with 18,000 lbs uphill.
Any faster with a load is just dangerous.

With a number 10 plate the stock clutch will not last long behind it. I would suggest a South Bend 13.5 like the one I have, but they do NOT recommend towing live stock with it lol.
TST treated me good when I bought the fuel plate and clutch from them.

Yes, #10 is a 350 hp plate and a lot of juice for a stock clutch and a weak 5th gear. Most any plate is tough on the clutch especially if you use low rpm.
I don't agree on the GSK. Your pump (96-98 manual trans) already fuels well in the power band. Pouring on the coals past around 2,600 rpm really brings up the EGTs.
A timing advance to around 15° will cool the EGTs without sacrifising the lower rpm power.

Don't forget to install the RFG. A Right Foot Governor is your best friend

Heck a good intake, exhaust system and the exhaust manifold might get you the little extra power you are looking for. Plus you could slide the stock fuel plate forward adding power but not so much to overpower the clutch.
