Leaking seal 97 CTD 4x4

I have two problems with my 97 Dodge 2500 CTD.
How serious a problem is a leaking rear pinion seal and a leaking transfer case seal?
Are these expensive fixes?

I know the tranfer case seal is an easy fix- remove the skid plate and front axle. Then the seal.

Both are easy fixes. You need a service manual if you don't already have one.

Good thing I'm not in politics....my career would be over! I meant drive shaft, not the axle as that Big Jimmy guy said... (who is that guy anyway??)

If you have a rear pinion seal leak, you may need to look at the rear end as well. Typically the seals only go if there is bearing clearance and not enough pre-load on the pinion bearings. You might replace the seal and in 4-5 months will have to do it again. If you are doing the pinion seal, take the rear pan off the diff and take a look at the gears, oil etc for wear or wear metal in the bottom. You need to shim the pinion assembly for proper pre-load so its not as easy as making the nut tighter.

If its the rear axle and the rear seal on the T-case I'd check the carrier bearin on the driveshaft while ur at it.
