Could you just JB weld the pin back in place? Its cheap and sounds like it would work.

I think it would be better to pound the pin back in (if it has moved), use some wicking loctite (the green stuff) and peen the head of the KDP before installing the tab....that way it will not move again.

Dr. Evil, I meant pound the pin back in its hole and JB weld over it and not bother with the tab. Could it be done like that?

Re:killed kdp this weekend!
I suppose...Ive never used JB weld much....as long as its good with aluminum, that should be ok...personally, Id just fab up a plate and use the accepted tab method.

The kit is cheap at 50.00, why risk the JB WELD fix?

Dave Fritz has some KDP instructions and a sketch of a tab here:

Re:killed kdp this weekend!
Just did my KDP today, it went good, my pin was out about 3/16" Pounded it back in put the Cummins tab on it, it seemed a little flimsy but I can't see the pin ever pushing out and bending the tab far enough for the pin to come out again.
Now I can quit thinking about it every time I drive somwhere.

Ok. So basically this "tab" is just something that goes under the bolt next to the hole of kdp and covers it. So you could take a washer and maybe braise a thin metal strip onto the side of it, and bolt it down over top of the hole? I am still kind of comfused.
Sure, any way you can secure it is fine. A lot of guys have trimmed a fender washer or cut their own tab out of sheet metal. The official Cummins fix is to stake the pin in with a punch, that seems to work as long as you're enthusiastic with the hammer.
