KDP and pump timing
KDP and pump timing
'94 4x2 3500 auto Tow truck 105k on clock. Talked boss into the KDP kit from TST. Is it any more convenient to check pump timing with timing cover off? Timing needs to be at least checked. Don't want to over power tranny, but I would like to at least not lose speed up grades with car/truck in tow. Any advice would be apreciated.

yes, there is an alignment pin, but he was talking about doing the kdp, and doing this will require the removal of the timing cover.
It won't make any difference if the cover is on or not to check the timing but will make it a hair bit easier if you want to change the timing.
You will need a few special tools that you don't have to change the timing.

Bumping the timing up to 16 won't trash the tranny any sooner, very little hp gain, just a smoother running engine that gets better mpgs.

Performed the KDP kit install from TST and the kdp was exactly like the picture in the instructions. Punched it back about a quarter inch and finished the job off. I did find it much easier with radiator removed, then I could get my 1/2 inch impact in there for the crank pulley bolts. All said and done in 3.5 hours . Thanks for the help.
