Re:KDP PIN

There is no sure way to tell with out taking it apart...at least somewhat. If you pull the fan and the fan hub off you will be able to see if its been pinned (harolds kit with the jig) but otherwise youre taking the cover off......I just stopped there and pined it.....Thats what I did.....When I got that far (easy) I spray the cover down with some cleaner and found my cover has been tig welded back together in two spots....so mine broke before i got my truck...(160k now) I think that if they could tig the cover back together that they probably tabbed the pin also but I pinned it anyways......so mine is probably fixed twice now. You can do the jig method in under two hours easy.....

Re:KDP PIN

Since this thread was started by a noobie, I'd like to remind/tell folks in the Philly area that I have a Harold's jig kit and I know how to use it. 5 and counting. PM me if you want it dealt with.

I wonder if you bought a used truck that had been tabbed already and you didn't know it- then you and went to jig it - if there's any chance of hitting the tab fix & mistaking it for a pin that has worked its way out too far to be fixed by the jig.

Re:KDP PIN

Harold's jig comes in at an angle to allow tapping a loose pin back in. If you did it on a tabbed truck, you'd never know. The punch would sound solid when you tapped on it, so you'd put the screw in and be doubly safe.

Might as well pull the front cover off and see what is in there. Then you can also check the torque values on the timing gear case mounting bolts.

Since you will be working in the general area, this would be a good time to change the coolant and serpentine belt.

Hi, I'm located in the cincinnati, ohio area and would like to know if there is anyone in the area who has the drilling fixture? I've had by truck since new and would feel alot better know that pin was taken care of.
