Installing new valvebody, half way through questions....(pics inside)

This afternoon/evening I spent tearing into my dodges auto tranny for the first time. It now sits in the driveway with no pan, no Valve body, and I have 2 valve bodies sitting on the shop table. I am in the process of installing a used DTT valve body. I will post some pictures in a second.

My problem is with the new DTT valve body. The parking detent ball is not spring loaded and the shifter just slides freely. It seems as if there is a spring behind it, the detent ball is just jammed inside of the valve body opening.

This doesn't seem correct. How would I go about removing what is in there and re-installing? Here are pictures:

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim

try to push the ball in a little and see if it got jamed or see if you can get it to come out the spring may be missing but it should deffinatly be pushing on thoes knotches to hold it in gear. i would push it in with a screw driver also is there a screw or cap on the housing that the ball is in?

well i tore into it a little more, and I couldn't come up with a rational reason I have this problem but here it is:

The Cylinder or sleeve which the ball and spring are to float in its a smaller diameter than the ball. I removed the ball from my stock VB and it has the same fit, its so tight that you cannot have a spring, and a ball, and have it function properly.

I believe dtt uses modified mopar valve bodies so I cannot figure why this would be. Anyway is there any reason the ball is the size it is? Could I get one slightly smaller? and just run it as is?

Let me know as I would like to get it taken care of tomorrow if at all possible.

And to schoust-
at this time I am just doing the VB. I passed up on a killer deal at the same time I purchased the VB and am not kicking myself. My truck will remain very close to stock so I think I will be OK. If this doesn't hold up I will go with a full Georand tranny.

It was a year and a half ago, deal is long gone, but I could have had a DTT TC and VB for around $400 total.

Was the valve body dropped or damaged, denting in the cylinder where the ball and spring are?

Well i took the dremel to it and removed ever so slightly a small amount of material. I got it put together, in the truck, and she drives great.

Thanks for the help... -Tim
