can anyone give me a easy way of adjusting the idle screw on a 96 cummins. i can barely reach the locknut on the bottom of the bolt. i can't get my arm around to turn the bolt clockwise.

It was a PITA for me, and the idle wound up a little high, but I don't wanna mess with it again.

For loosening the locknut, i found that turning the actual adjustment nut on the top would break the locknut free.

Tightening is a PITA... I snaked my arm around behind the brake lines and down, getting 2 fingers on the wrench.

The easiest approach is to lie across the FRONT of the truck and reach in. It is very hard to get at the idle adjuster from the side.

I'm not sure this is the correct way, but I leaned in from the side had to use a step ladder even at six foot three inches. Had my better half push the throttle pedal down from inside the cab, engine off of course. this made it easy to get to the lock nut and adjustment screw. Only disadvantage was had to adjust a couple of times to get right RPM.

If its anything like a first gen the eaisyest way is to use a small punch to loosen the locknut.

True, i was standing with my right foot on the tire, left leg draped over the brush guard on the bumper, and then I tried to make little adjustments while the engine was running, put a nice burn mark on the inside of my arm from one of the hydroboost lines..

Laying across the front would probably be easier, but I do most of the work on my truck right after I get home, before the better half gets home... hot radiator not good for tummy..
