i just bought a 95 12 valve cummins
i just bought a 95 12 valve cummins i want to make it fast i want tons of hp and torque but i dont know much about diesels i bought it to pull my trailer. i was wondering what should i do to my truck to make it fast. what would you diesel guys do i got like $1500 to spend what should i buy and how much hp would it give me
congrats!!!
12v is a wise choice... first thing you should do is fix your Killer dowel pin. do a search if you don't know what this is.
if it drops out.... could result in major damage to your cummins.
this is a crap shoot... could go another 100k miles without problems or lunch your motor tomorrow.
it's not worth taking the chance do it right away!

Good job on the purchase of a 12 valve. Welcome to an expensive to maintain truck that can be rewarding.
I myself could utterly care less about "fast" as it's just a truck to me. I desire longevity, and since I'm around 340k right now, my primary goal is to keep it going for quite a while longer. The way your engine is rated currently, it's likley 160bhp/400lb-ft, and this is a rating for the entire life cycle of the engine meaning it's designed to operate there 24/7 for 5000+ hours of operation.
Those advertising "500+ bhp and 1000+ lb-tq" will be listing only peak hp & torque. Not what it was ultimatly designed for.

You can do most of it for FREE, just do a search on grinding your fuel plate and then read this article; http://wiki.dieseltruckresource.com/wiki/Pump_Mod%27s
It doesn't make TONS of hp but it sure wakes the truck up.
If you want to make TONS of hp/tq grab your check book and visit the "Performance" section here.

Never seen it mentioned yet, get gauges before you start messing with the fuel. Boost, pyro, and tranny temp if its an auto. If you do have an auto, you may want to look into getting upgrades for that before adding fuel, as the tranny can get eaten up in short order with a boosted engine.
Here is another good article for you. As said KDP and gauges BEFORE fuel mods. Be safe and know what is going on in there when you change things.

The 95 is a great truck. If You are serious about big power $1500 wont get you far, but you need a set of gadges and then a shift kit with billit T/C. That will run you about $2000. Do the Free power mods, like grind you a 10,100, or 0 plate, 3000 rpm gov. washer mod, timing, and some others do a serch on this site you will find a welth of info. Have Fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
