They're pretty rare but if you're willing to drive you can almost always find one. Might have to wait a little bit and whether the one you found is clean is important. I'd say $14 is reaonable. If it's a clean truck and it's what you want then go for it.

I paid 12 for my 97, it was what I was looking for. Clean body and interior, no mods. Now any screw-ups that are done to it are done by me, not a prev owner. Good luck.

I have a 98 12v, qc, sb. Found mine on Autotrader in Shelbyville, KY. It is a 2WD but it was in good shape and had been taken care of. The bed looked fantastic.
Paid 11,500 for mine, I luv er'. Had 127,000 on it. Now has around 147,000

I know of two 98 12v's out here for sale now...
One is a SB Quad Cab Auto 4x4 with a tick over a 100k on it and the owner wants 14k for it.
The other is a LB Dually Quad Cab 4x4 5spd with at 100k on it,leather loaded and the owner wants 15k for it.
The problem with these trucks is not that they are rare but finding one low milage will cost you more than some think they are worth. The value of the truck to me is what the owner and the buyer decide to exhange for that truck, not what some may think they are worth or they sell on the internet for.
I can assure you I have had many offers for mine as clean as it is and had them all walk away shaking their heads. All the work has been done, its never been smoked in and never been pulled with, try and find one cleaner with all I have on mine I tell them, then come back and try to buy it and the price goes up even more for insulting me.Do I want to sell it,not really, but I will say this when the right cash is laid out I will move into something newer,LOL.
TopBanana Here is the bottom line...
If the price fits your wallet, then its a buy no mattter what anyone says or claims and your the only one who has to be happy with your purchase.Buy it,build it and make it your own........Andy

Are they EXTRA rare with a SB? Mine's a SB. I payed 8K for it and it needed the NV4500 rebuilt. The guy didn't know what he had, and I didn't exactly know what I was getting, either.

I don't know if it's extra rare or if that's just what more people prefer. I personally prefer a long bed.

if this truck is a 4x4 5sp QC w/142K... that might be OK on price.
2wdr with 142k miles at $14k price is a bit high... there's usually a $5k+ price difference between under 100k miles and 150k miles. $1,500- $2k difference for 4x4. no price difference for 5sp, but they are harder to find.
purchased 97 4x4 w/96k miles in my sig for $11k. all straight and pretty clean local truck. zero issues since purchasing.
short box or long is personal preference. to me short box is a negative. 5sp is a definite advantage.

I searched high and low for mine earlier this year. I specifically wanted a 2wd automatic. I found it over in Michigan where it had sat for a year on a dealer's lot and he was getting motivated to sell it. Got it for $9,600 with 140k on the clock. This truck had wintered every year out west so it is rust free. I'm going to keep it forever and wouldn't give it up for $20k.

I just bought a 1998 12v QuadCab SB in July and paid $14,800.00. It had 88,000 miles and has absolutely no modifications to it. It is extra clean inside and out and was a Carfax certified one owner. I thought I got a pretty good deal on it. I do not intend to hijack the thread but what do you guys think? Thanks!
