Mine was built in September 2007. It's a quad cab, shortbed, 12V with the 5 speed. I bought it with 189K on it in January 2005. Currently it has 224K on it.

ahopper,
A 97 built in sept 97 seems awfully late in the game. Usually the factory stops the model year production by around late june to July. Seems really weird.

Have you had the dearler run the vin and very the info you seen on the tag?
I know a fella that can run the VIN at the local dealer, and see the build date and options on it.

I'd have to seriously dispute this point. There's no way HALF of them made where Manual (5 Speeds).

Most likely around 20-25% at the most. THIS is where the RARITY of these trucks comes in to play.

If the definition of grail truck was a nice 2nd gen, there would be hundreds of thousands of them.

Grail Dodge Cummins truck means.
A '98.0 which is a THREE month only production 12V but with the quad cab option rather than the earlier 12V that came with "JUST" the Ex-cab option. For me [and likely others] it would have to be manual as well. I don't do auto work trucks.
Lots of people search that package out as you get the reliable, easy to work on 12V but with the newer interior and quad cab option.
