How many "grail" trucks are out there?
How many "grail" trucks are out there?
I am not trying to start an arguement about who has the best cummins. But I am wondering how many 1998 12v 215 pump 5speed quad cab short or long bed pickups are out there. Because everyday I find out somthing more that makes it rare and I feel if I keep it for a long time that someday it will be like havin an old 70 chevelle with a 454 4-speed. I don't know if I am crazy but I was just thinking about it. I never new anything about this truck I own till I found this sight and I just bought the truck because I thought it was a deal and its a cummins to boot. If you got pics I'd like to see them. thanks
The only thing I heard is that it was made for 4 months

The quadcab did not come out at the start of the 98 model year, Dodge was only making clubcabs for the first couple of months, then in Sept, the quadcabs started showing up from the factory. So the 12v quadcab production was from about Sept to Dec of 1997...that's only about 4 to 4.5 months of production time. You also have to remember, the clubcab was still the 'normal' extended cab option, and if you wanted a quadcab, you had to pay even more for it. So clubcabs were still being built all through the 98 model year.
I watched all this back then because I was eagerly waiting for the right time to order a new truck, and my dad worked at a Dodge dealer so I got to see all the new stuff coming in, so I was watching those options like a hawk.
I don't think anybody knows the quadcab 5spd 215hp production numbers. 500 is too low though, I don't believe that number at all...there seems to be more than that floating round.

Of course, I would imagine they didn't sell all that well compared to when the SUV's were all the craze.

A 95 extended cab dually, produced in 94... Before seeing the door tag I figured the guy didn't know what he was talking about because I had never seen anything but a 96+ be extended cab. Don't mind the bed I bought an 01 white dually bed with nice mud flaps lined with chrome on the bottom. The lineX is new also!!!
used to think 98 12v was rare... no longer. they pop up all the time for sale. 98 12v owners are all over DTR...
not exactly common, but not rare either....
had a chance to purchase a 98 12v long bed w/88k miles in Jan this year for $12,500. passed and decided to keep my 97 CTD instead.

An internet search revealed, in 1998 there were 92000 deisel rams made.
590 per day. So if we say aug1 to dec1 thats 4 months at 20 or so work days a month is about 80 days, 40 somethng thousand deisels. Pronbably around half were auto....so were back to 20 something k 5 speeds, factor out the extra cab and reg cab, and its probably down around 10 thousand.
