how long to tab a kdp?
I think it's more like most of them were never driven in all the way to begin with. I'm sure Cummins never dreamt that the pins would come loose and cause so much damage.
I would think it would be nice to bolt the case even if you tabbed the pin - at least future owners would be able to tell with a visual inspection if the pin had been secured. Mine may be tabbed but I'll have to tear it apart to find out.
When I tabbed mine, it was very easy since the engine was out of the truck, my pin was out some and didnt take much of a hit to get it back in, would you not be able to pry it back into the block through the hole? The pin isn't close enough to the case to stop the drill from completing the hole is it?
I got a question
I plan on doing this soon, just ordered it yesterday too.
What if the pin already fell out and didn't cause any damage, and from what I hear it just falls in the oil pan? Are you supposed to place it back in there? Or could you leave it out? That's been bugging me for a while, because I wasn't sure on what to do if I opened it up and it already fell out.

The pin is necessary to keep the case and gears properly aligned. No pin could lead to problems further down the road, one of them is constantly changing the timing as the injection pump gear gets rocked back and forth..
They only cost a couple bucks from the dealer or Cummins
