How high can I let my egts get for an extended time before catistrophic engine failure will occur. The last time I pulled I got worried at 1050 deg, but I know they can get highter than that.

 

1200 max sustained. I usually back out at 1150 just in case my gauge has a little error.

 

Depends where the prob is in the exhaust.

 

There is no good answer to this question. I am going to assume that your egt probe is in your exhaust manifold where it is the most sensitive. Most people will say that you should not ever sustain over 1250F. Knowing that, I draw the line at 1200F. A lot of the high horsepower trucks have seen well over 1500F for short periods of time.

 

It is in the manifold I too the mounting pos from dodgeram.org. I will keep it at 1200 or below in the future.

 

when I tow i keep it under 1200 but when hot rodding around i bury my 1600* pyro all the time, no issues.

 

im pretty sure you can hit over 1200 for more than a short period of time but 1500 is where you shoudl really worry if your doing it for more then a short period of time
