How get your Diesel Warm

Hey I live in Alaska and have a 1991 dodge 250 12 valve and freeze in it all winter! I have cleaned the heater core and stuff but just doesn't get warm enough. Any ideas of what i could do or add? Not saying i like power strokes :P but my friends 2006 has an amazing heater in it! It will cook you out!

Put cardboard in front of the rad, get an insulation blanket made to cover the underside of the engine bay to hold heat in.

Thanks for the help, I have a bra on the front of it already but not a cover on the underside of the engine bay. I might try that. I have heard of people using installing Wabasto heaters. Does any one know how well they work?

They work well but are pricey.

Check that your temperature door in your heating duct is working properly.

I have found once i am on the highway for 15-20mins i get plenty of heat in cab. That is with cardboard in front.

Also, a high idle really helps build some heat when not driving. Just watch because as mine warms up the high idle increases on its own (EX. 1000rpm when cold and 2000 when warmed up) with same throttle setting.

Without buying a aux heater (research called for) next best thing is to pull the fan. I used to look forward to cold weather so I could do this. Much quieter and warmer. No worries about over heating. One huge point, fan nut is left hand threads.

You do know that the thermostat works, right?

Before I knew better, that caused me to freeze in the cab one winter.

I meant outdoor temp, the electric gauge has let me down once already when it read ice cold with the block temp above 300F after my water pump let all the water out

What does your temp gauge read? Should be mid way, maybe thermostat is stuck open. I changed my heater core and that really helped.
